Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach 2010June 30th, 2010 by admin
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach has become a tradition for several 4 Wheel Parts employees. It’s a week when the very same streets we drive to work on every day are shut down to showcase some of the best drivers in the world.
Every year on the Thursday before the race, things get kicked off with a Hall of Fame ceremony that is always attended by famous drivers and can be attended by anyone walking off the street. This year Michael Andretti and Danny Sullivan both got inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sitting in the stands were Al Unser Jr. and Marco Andretti.
Later that night, the streets were blocked off for a driver meet and greet and several different expeditions. You can watch while dirt bikes fly over a band, the Grand Prix pit teams try for the best pit times, a roller derby match ensues, or you can sit in any one of your favorite cars.
Starting at 8:00 am every day you get your first taste of what’s to come. The Indy cars can reach speeds in excess of 220 mph and there are several vantage points to watch the action from. For those lucky enough to be in one the suites, all food and beverages are provided and they usually have the best views of the track.
Once the Indy cars are done, the celebrities get their chance out on the track. This year, the more notable celebrities included Keanu Reeves, Christian Slater, Tony Hawk, Adrien Brody and Adam Carolla, and you can meet them in the celebrity pits.
When they finish, the world challenge cars go out. World challenge cars are high end production cars all raced out. This is your opportunity to watch Ferrari, Porsche, Nissan, Chevrolet, and Ford go at it. All in all, it’s a great time that any automotive enthusiast will enjoy!
