    Tires & Wheels Upgrade

Helo Wheels & Toyo Proxes Tires

With the 2/5 drop I now had on my truck, it was time to look for some tires and wheels. The Ground Force truck I saw at our Truck & Jeep Fest show was running a set of 24″ wheels. I really didn’t want to go that big for a couple of reasons:

    1. The tires and rims in that size would be way out of my budget.
    2. I heard they ride pretty rough.

I drive this truck everyday so I really didn’t want to mess up the ride too much. I decided to call Ground Force to ask about tire and wheel recommendations. I mentioned to them that I wanted to fill up my wheel well as much as possible without rubbing. They recommended a 305x40x22 tire and a 22×8.5 wheel or 10 with at least a 5.5-6″ backspacing.

    Ground Force Lowering Kit

    Ground Force Lowering Kit

Since everyone here has a lifted truck, I decided to lower mine. I’m going for a sports truck look more than an off-road look. This truck will never be used to go off-roading at all; it’s just not my thing to be honest with you.

While visiting our Truck & Jeep Fest show here in California I saw an F-150 just like mine that was built by Ground Force. I honestly fell in love with how this truck looked. The lowering kit was perfect. After talking to the rep at the booth I found out it was a 2/5 drop (meaning 2″ front 5″ rear) and decided this was the kit for my truck. The Ground Force Lowering Kit consists of front coils, rear shocks, bump stops, shackles, and a rear flip kit. You reuse your factory front shocks, which is a cool idea because you don’t lose your factory ride as much.

  • Exhaust Recirculation Valve Upgrade

    Exhaust Recirculation Valve Upgrade

    April 27th, 2010 by Greg D.

    Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve

Before I start, let me say the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is an emissions related device that may be required to pass SMOG in the near future. That being said, EGR systems are what cause the 6.0 to overhead and puke coolant out of the reservoir. The EGR diverts 1000+ degree exhaust gas and attempts to cool it using diverted engine coolant.

    HID Lights

Everyone who’s been off-roading at night knows that regardless of the vehicle, your stock lights just don’t cut it. Off-road lights can be the deciding factor in your night runs, whether it’s avoiding an obstacle or just enabling you to have more fun.

Precision Grilles - Bumper & Main

Upgrading your grille is a must on your truck. There are many options out there, so I decided not to go with the traditional billet grille style. Since I am looking for a sport truck look, I went with the Precision Grille One Twenty stainless wire mesh grille. This really made the front end of my truck stand out.

  • Ford 6.0 Head Gaskets

    Ford 6.0 Head Gaskets

    April 12th, 2010 by Greg D.

Being the owner of a Ford 6.0 diesel, I am often asked how I have so much power without it being plagued with problematic head gasket issues. The main reason the 6.0 blows head gaskets is that the heads are held on by torque-to-yield bolts. This essentially means that upon assembly, the factory head bolts have a micro-elastic property intended to increase pressure between the head and block, which sounds great. The problem is that if they are pushed past their intended specifications (i.e. programmers, heavy towing, heavy right foot) the bolts actually stretch just enough to release pressure and blow a head gasket.

    Jay’s 2007 Jeep JK Upgrades

April 8th, 2010 by Jay Barnett

My name is Jay Barnett but my co-workers and friends call me Jeep Bastard Jay. I got that nickname from an old friend (it’s a long story), but I have stuck with it ever since. I have been with the company for a LONG time and currently help the DSI department. Well, enough about me. Here’s my Jeep story.

Back in 2007, Jeep released their new Wrangler called the JK and from the moment I saw it I knew everyone was going to see me on the trail with the newest and greatest Jeep vehicle. The only problem was that California didn’t have any of them, so before I could pack I was on a plane flying to Dallas, Texas to bring home my bright red Jeep. The good thing about working here and having one of the first JKs in California is testing the aftermarket parts for vendors.

A Second Round of Upgrades on My 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

March 23rd, 2010 by James Grossaint

Last time I showed you guys how I increased the power on my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD 5.7 Hemi Crew Cab Big Horn Edition. This time I decided to tackle an even larger project:

    1. The next upgrade on my list was a big one: a Lowering kit from Ground Force Suspensions. This was a front 2″, rear 3″ drop with front and rear coil springs, bumpstops, and shocks. I did this install in my driveway, which is about a 6 hour job. It was very clear in the instructions and I had no issues understanding what to unbolt, install, or cut. The kit rides great and has the factory ride quality, allowing me to take bumps and potholes without slowing down.
