New Exterior Upgrade – LED Brake Light by ReconApril 13th, 2010 by admin
I just picked up an LED third brake light made by Recon P#264124BK. It’s a smoke lens with one of the brightest bulbs I have ever seen on a third brake light. This sucker is super bright and stands out from a mile away; it looks really great.
Now, as far as the installation goes, it is a bit of a pain in the butt. The easiest part was taking off the two screws that hold the light on. Ford decided to make the connector to the light really short, so it’s hard to get to from the outside. I tried squeezing my hand through but it just wasn’t happening. I don’t recommend you try it either because the headliner has a fiberglass support, so you will get all the flakes on your skin and it doesn’t feel too good.
The way to get to this connector is to drop down the back part of the headliner. All that you need to do is loosen up the hooks on both sides of the headliner and carefully pull it down to pop off the clips that hold it up. Once that’s down, it’s just a matter of plugging in the new light and bolting everything back up.
Install time on this was about 15mins, but make sure to wear gloves so that you don’t get any of the fiberglass on your skin. Other than that it was a very simple install.
