Pro Comp Tire & Wheel Upgrade for Marcos’ 2004 2WD Toyota Tacoma Pre RunnerJune 11th, 2010 by admin
I did not go big on my 2004 2WD Toyota Tacoma Pre Runner. This truck came with 16” steel wheels and 265/7016, which were somewhat of an eyesore. Since my truck is black with front and rear chrome bumpers, my first and only choice was PXA8089 16×8 Pro Comp wheels on Pro Comp 265/75r16 XTreme Mud Terrain tires, along with a set of Gorilla spline lug nuts.
The tires are taller and wider, and the wheels came with a 4-5/8 inch backspacing to easily clear a four piston caliper (oversized). The rule of thumb here is to stick with the same stock size diameter package or an inch bigger (in this case 17×9 on 265/75r17 if I wanted to).
Never go down on size. Save yourself some headache. Fifteen inches would not have cleared the calipers; then I would have been stuck with a 15” package. I had minor inner fender rubbing so to alleviate that I installed a spacer kit.
