Upgrading My 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 3.8L 4X4March 25th, 2010 by admin
I bought my 2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the bare minimum because I knew in 6 months it would not look the same.
I started with the essentials: lift, wheels, and tires. For this I went with the pros at the 4 Wheel Parts in Santa Ana. We decided to tackle a 6″ Pro Comp Long Arm kit with Fox Reservoirs. I also installed Pro Comp 7005 series 17″ wheels and the Pro Comp 37″ Mud Terrains, which hold up great on trail rides and are smooth on the street.
While the store tore apart my new ride, I decided the 3.8L wouldn’t power 37″ tall tires without gears and lockers. I went with the best, knowing this jeep would be put to the test. For my gear selection I turned to G2; their precise cut gears are made for a trip to Hell and back. We decided to throw 5.13s in for better bottom end. For lockers I went to ARB; with an air tight lock, I knew they would hold when the Jeep needed to climb.
2 days later I was staring at a BEAST that stood over 7 feet tall and was looking for a trail to destroy. But before I could go out I needed to dress it up and make sure I had the tools for the job. Check for my next post where I’ll talk about the final upgrades I made and how the test run went.
